TroubleshootingSiFly eFoil (Adventure / Stellar / Rider Serie)

My SiFly eFoil beeps continuously and won't let me ride — what's going on?

A continuous beep almost always means the hydrofoil's electronics have no connection to the board's main computer. On Adventure boards, first check the communication connectors in the battery compartment. If a restart doesn't help, do a hard reset with the magnetic key. If it persists, contact support.

  1. Adventure series: open the battery compartment, check that the communication cable to the hydrofoil is securely seated
  2. Restart the system (briefly disconnect the battery or open/close the lid)
  3. Hard reset: connect the battery to the hydrofoil, place the magnet on the marked circle (power on), then hold a second magnet centered on the main computer module for 30 seconds (Adventure: front of the board/rectangular pad; Stellar/Rider: on the mast, center of the black box), then remove both magnets
  4. If the error persists → contact support

TroubleshootingSiFly eFoilSafety

My SiFly only accelerates slowly, makes weird noises, and won't go past gear 2 — why?

Your eFoil is stuck in Limited Power Mode, a deliberate protective throttle. Three causes are possible: an overheated battery, a charge level below 8%, or a missing session in Business mode. Let the battery cool down, recharge it, or set up a session in the SiFly app — then the motor will run at full power again.

  1. Battery overheated → let it cool down
  2. Charge level below 8% → charge it (at 8% the board deliberately throttles as a return-to-shore reserve, only released above 8%)
  3. Business mode → set up a session in the SiFly app

TroubleshootingSiFly eFoilSafety

I released the trigger on my remote, but the propeller keeps spinning — what should I do?

This means the trigger is no longer calibrated correctly — the zero and full-throttle positions are off. You fix this with the calibration routine in the remote's menu. Go through it carefully until "Done" appears. Stay clear of the spinning propeller and the water while doing this.

  1. Open the menu (safe mode): hold "+" for 3 sec, then hold "F" for 3 sec, select "Calibrate"
  2. Sequence, each step starts with "F" and ends with a vibration: Start (F) → release trigger+F → release+F → pull/hold+F → release+F → pull/hold+F
  3. "Done" = finished; if "Calibration ERROR" appears, hold/release the trigger consistently at each step until the vibration and try again

TroubleshootingSiFly eFoil

My SiFly's remote gets stuck on the "Connecting…" screen — how do I get it reconnected?

This happens when the board, battery, and remote aren't running the same firmware. Check the versions of all devices under "Specifications" in the SiFly app and bring them to the same version. From version 2.2-365 onward, you only need to update the board — the battery and remote update automatically.

  1. In the app, compare the firmware of the board/hydrofoil, battery, and remote under "Specifications"
  2. Connect the board to a stable WiFi network and install Firmware A + B (both!)
  3. From 2.2-365 onward: only update the board, battery + RC follow automatically (~5 min); for older versions (≤2.0-350) update manually via each device's page
  4. Verify success: the "Firmware" and "Sensorhub" fields show the same version; never ride with mismatched versions

TroubleshootingSiFly PowerCell LRSafety

My SiFly battery is connected to the charger but won't charge — what's the cause?

Usually the battery is too hot or in a protective state. To charge, its temperature must be below 40°C — connect via the SiFly app and check the temperature and any error message. If the voltage is too low (a low-voltage error), the charger won't start; in that case use the app's recovery charging mode.

  1. Connect to the battery via the SiFly app, read out the temperature and error code
  2. Above 40°C → let it cool down in a shady, cool spot
  3. Check the contacts on the battery and charger for cleanliness/dryness, remove salt/moisture with a soft cloth
  4. Low-voltage error → recovery charging mode: connect the charger via the app, select recovery, keep your phone nearby with the app open; after a few minutes continue charging normally
  5. If it persists → contact support

A red blinking battery LED with no startup tone signals an error detected by the battery management system — connect via the SiFly app and read out the error code. If the LED blinks even without the magnetic key attached, the battery firmware needs a reset using a second magnet. If the error persists, contact support.

  1. Red LED + no startup tone → connect via the app, read the error code + explanation, follow the instructions; otherwise contact support
  2. LED blinks without the magnetic key → hard reset with a second magnet: second circle on the underside of the battery, hold both magnets on their circles for 30 sec
  3. If the error persists → contact support (never open the battery yourself)

TroubleshootingSiFly eFoil

The propeller (or jet) on my SiFly accelerates in reverse — how do I fix this?

The drive's rotation direction is set incorrectly. Correct it in the SiFly app under "Rotation Direction": propeller hydrofoils spin clockwise, newer drives like the SiFly Jet spin counterclockwise. Always check this setting after swapping the propeller or drive unit.

  1. SiFly app → device settings → "Rotation Direction"
  2. Propeller: clockwise; SiFly Jet / newer systems: counterclockwise
  3. After every propeller/drive swap, check and adjust the rotation direction

Care & MaintenanceSiFly eFoil

How do I properly clean and check my SiFly eFoil after every ride — especially after saltwater?

Rinse the board and foil thoroughly with fresh water after every ride, paying special attention to the motor and rubber seals — crystallized salt on the propeller shaft damages both. Afterwards, check all connectors for corrosion and the battery for cracks and an intact pressure valve. Blow out any moisture.

  1. Rinse board and foil thoroughly with fresh water; pay attention to motor + rubber seals, remove salt from the propeller shaft
  2. Inspect all components for damage before and after every session (seals/EVA pad/propeller are wear parts)
  3. Are the connectors clean and free of corrosion? Blow out moisture or wipe dry; only connect wet contacts once dry
  4. Check the battery: no cracks, pressure valve clear (not blocked, damaged, or corroded)

Care & MaintenanceSiFly PowerCell LRSafety

What do I do if my SiFly PowerCell LR battery is cracked or damaged?

Never keep using a damaged battery. A cracked battery that comes into contact with water can suffer internal damage and, in the worst case, corrode or explode. Immediately place it outdoors, monitor it from a safe distance until it's completely dry, and contact SiFly support right away.

  1. Immediately take a damaged/cracked battery out of service — don't ride, don't charge
  2. If it's been in contact with water: place it in an open area right away, monitor from a safe distance until completely dry
  3. Never open, puncture, or burn it; don't tamper with the pressure valve
  4. Contact SiFly support or dispose of it properly (free return to SiFly for recycling)

Care & MaintenanceSiFly eFoil

How do I take care of my SiFly eFoil if it stays assembled for a longer period?

If you leave the eFoil assembled for a longer period, disassemble it every three to four weeks and apply TefGel to the screws and threaded inserts — this prevents oxidation. Treat the communication and power connectors with dielectric grease every few weeks to guard against electrolysis, and grease the O-ring at the top of the mast plate.

  1. Disassemble every 3–4 weeks and apply TefGel to screws + threaded inserts (oxidation protection)
  2. Protect communication and power connectors every few weeks with dielectric grease (against electrolysis)
  3. Grease the O-ring at the top of the mast plate with the same grease (seal)
  4. Never store in direct sunlight / above 50 °C for extended periods; not wet in the board bag, not in a hot car

OperationSiFly eFoil

How do I turn on the SiFly remote, activate the motor, and control power?

To turn it on, hold "-" and "F" for four seconds. The remote starts locked (lock icon). To arm it, press "X", then "F" within one second — you now have five seconds to hit the throttle. Use "-" and "+" to choose among 20 gears; set the mode (Easy/Dynamic) in the menu.

  1. Turn on: hold "-" + "F" for 4 sec. Turn off: hold "-" + "F" for 3 sec + confirm with "F" (or hold for 7 sec)
  2. Starts disarmed (lock icon) — protection against accidental start-up
  3. Arming: press "X", then "F" within 1 sec; 5-sec window to give throttle, otherwise it disarms again (RC must be connected to the board)
  4. Pull the trigger; change gears with "-"/"+" (20 levels), don't shift up too fast
  5. Mode in the menu: Easy (trigger = on/off, good for learning) or Dynamic (fine throttle control)

Battery & ChargingSiFly PowerCell LRSafety

How do I properly charge my SiFly PowerCell LR battery?

Only charge the battery under supervision using the supplied SiFly charger, in a dry, cool, shaded, and well-ventilated spot. The connectors must be clean and dry. Attach the magnetic key — the LED shows the charge level in green and blinks blue while charging. Solid green means full; let it cool down afterwards.

  1. Place battery + charger on a dry, flat surface; dry connectors with a soft cloth/compressed air, check that the ports are clean/dry inside
  2. Plug in the black power cable until it clicks; the red (positive) connector is keyed — insert it sideways with the top facing out, until it clicks
  3. Attaching the magnetic key activates the battery; green blinking = charge level (1× = 0–20%, … 5× = 81–96%, solid green = 96–100%), blue between measurements
  4. Once done (solid green + fan stopped): remove the magnet, unplug the charger from the mains, then disconnect the connector at the base (not by the cable)
  5. Only use the supplied charger; never charge with damaged connectors; let the charger/connectors cool down before touching

OperationSiFly eFoilSafety

How do I properly assemble my SiFly eFoil?

Assembly happens in three steps: insert the mast, mount the wings, install the battery. Work on a soft, clean surface, keep all connectors dry, and use TefGel against oxidation as well as dielectric grease on the connectors and O-ring. Tighten the screws diagonally and use the correct length. Once the motor beeps, the board is ready to ride.

  1. Mast: flip the board upside down onto a soft surface (keep the cable channel free of sand), apply TefGel into the stainless steel inserts, dielectric grease onto the O-ring; feed the connectors through the channel one at a time (don't pinch them), insert the hydrofoil with a slight twist, tighten diagonally with 4x M6x25 screws
  2. Wings: apply TefGel to the 5 threaded inserts, tighten with the matching screws; always use the correct screw length (screws that are too long will damage the fuselage)
  3. Battery: turn the eFoil upright (no pressure on the wing tips), open the battery compartment, lightly lubricate all connectors with dielectric grease; connect the communication connector by aligning the arrows until it clicks (not applicable for V2/V3), connect the black power cable until it clicks, insert the red keyed positive connector from the side (top side facing outward)
  4. Insert and lock the battery (Adventure: turn the knob 90°; Rider/Stellar: spring mechanism), close the lid; the magnet in the lid activates the battery, a beep means it's ready to ride
  5. Never spin the propeller out of the water for more than ~2 seconds; never carry the eFoil by the stabilizer rod

How do I learn to ride and stand up on the SiFly eFoil?

Learn eFoiling step by step: first get familiar with the board on your knees and hands, then do short flights on all fours (touch & go), then upright on your knees, and finally standing. Always mount from the side, increase power slowly, and shift your weight gently. Ideally with an instructor or at an eFoil school.

  1. Getting to know the board: mount from the side (away from the wings/propeller), kneel in the middle, apply throttle carefully; nose too high/diving → shift weight to the center until the board sits level; steer via weight shifting
  2. On all fours: weight over your hands, slowly increase power up to planing speed (roughly from ~15 km/h), slowly shift your hips back (lift off), then immediately forward (land); repeat touch & go
  3. Upright on your knees: knees further forward, upper body upright, accelerate evenly, spread your arms, shift weight back onto your heels until lift-off
  4. Standing up: accelerate to ~10 km/h, place your front foot between your hands, slowly stand up with your weight forward, back foot lightly toward the edge; then take weight off the front foot, hips back = lift-off, immediately forward and land
  5. Safety: if you lose control, always jump sideways away from the board; only increase power gradually

How do I charge the SiFly remote control and use it in low light?

The remote control charges wirelessly: connect the included charging pad with cable and adapter and place the remote on it. It switches on automatically and shows the charge level. For dusk conditions there's a display backlight in the menu. Never go out riding with less than two bars of remote battery.

  1. Wireless charging: connect the included wireless charging pad with cable + adapter, place the remote on it; it starts automatically and shows the battery level
  2. Auto shut-off: after 1 minute without input/movement it switches off; on firmware <2.2-365, only the display turns off after 5 minutes (charging continues)
  3. Backlight at dusk: Menu → "Backlight", adjust brightness with "-"/"+", go back with "X"; without movement the backlight switches off (power saving)
  4. The eFoil has no lighting → not suitable for night riding; never head out with less than 2 bars of remote capacity

What safety rules do I need to follow with the SiFly eFoil — and where am I allowed to ride?

Always wear an impact vest and helmet, keep your distance from swimmers and boats, and never ride further out than you can swim back. Only ride in daylight and good weather in sheltered waters, never during thunderstorms or under the influence of alcohol or medication. Follow local regulations and have someone accompany you.

  1. Equipment/accompaniment: impact vest + helmet; tell someone where you're going, have someone accompany/supervise you; a chase boat from 300 m off shore
  2. Where/when: sheltered waters (bays, lakes, rivers, canals), not in water under 1 m deep, not in crowds/near rocky shores; only in daylight and good visibility, never during thunderstorms
  3. Requirements: not under 16 years old (local law), not under the influence of alcohol/medication/drugs, only if healthy, not pregnant; clarify local rules/licenses beforehand
  4. Propulsion: mount from the side, keep hands/feet away from sharp wing edges, avoid aquatic plants/debris, never remove foreign objects while the board is switched on, keep children away from the propeller
  5. Increase speed gradually, maintain full control at all times; only attempt difficult maneuvers once you've mastered the basics safely

How long is the warranty on my SiFly, and when does the hydrofoil need servicing?

Within the EU, you get two years of warranty on the board, battery, eFoil, wing, remote control, and charger; outside the EU it's one year. The battery and eFoil are additionally limited to 300 charge cycles or 300 motor hours respectively. Important: the hydrofoil must go in for service every 100 motor hours or 12 months — otherwise the warranty becomes void.

  1. EU warranty: board/wing/remote control/charger 2 years; battery 2 years or 300 charge cycles; eFoil 2 years or 300 motor hours (whichever comes first). Outside the EU, 1 year each
  2. Mandatory hydrofoil service: every 100 motor hours or 12 months (whichever comes first) — otherwise the warranty becomes void; service at a SiFly service point or via E-SURFER
  3. Install critical firmware updates as soon as the app prompts you; otherwise no warranty coverage for resulting damage
  4. 14-day return (EU, private customers, original packaging, near-mint condition; return shipping at your own cost); warranty claims require the original invoice, warranty is transferable

OperationSiFly eFoilSafety

How do I limit the top speed of my SiFly for kids or beginners?

Use the "Safety Power Limit" in the SiFly app: there you set the highest gear that's enabled, which caps the maximum speed. Select the gear, switch on the toggle, and confirm with "Configure". For a child up to 50 kg, gear 7 or 8 works well. Lighter riders already get plenty of speed with low gears.

  1. SiFly app → board device settings → "Safety Power Limit"
  2. Select the highest gear from the dropdown, switch on the activation toggle, tap "Configure" → maximum speed is capped
  3. Choose the gear to match the rider's weight: lighter riders already reach high speeds with low gears; child up to 50 kg → gear 7 or 8
  4. Always activate this when teaching kids/beginners and supervise them within calling distance

OperationSiFly eFoilSafety

Which riding settings can I adjust in the SiFly app — take-off alert, trigger responsiveness, tilt protection?

In the device settings you'll find three riding aids: the "Ready to Fly Alert" (signals take-off readiness on the display), the "Throttle Response" (how quickly the motor reacts to the trigger), and the "Board Tilt Protection" (cuts the motor if the board tilts too much). You activate each one via a toggle and "Configure".

  1. Ready to Fly Alert: choose a take-off speed matching your weight/wing, toggle on, "Configure"; guideline: Cruiser 1900 + average weight lifts off at ~14 km/h, heavier rider/smaller wings = higher take-off speed
  2. Throttle Response: Standard 60 ms (recommended), Beginner 90 ms (calmer for beginners), Advanced 30 ms (fastest reaction)
  3. Board Tilt Protection: limits motor rotation to an angle range (pitch/roll); if exceeded, motor cuts off + "Board Tilted" shows on the RC; modes Standard (more safety) / Sport, custom angles possible

OperationSiFly eFoilSafety

Which wing should I choose for my SiFly, and how do I adjust the balance?

Larger wings like the Cruiser 1900 lift off earlier and more stably; smaller wings like the Sport 700 need more speed but deliver more top speed and maneuverability. You can further adjust the ride balance using the included plastic shims on the front wing.

  1. Wing selection: Cruiser 1900 / Cruiser 1300 / Sport 700 / ECO, stabilizers CR340 / CR300 / SP240; large wings = early, stable lift-off, small wings = more speed/agility, requiring more speed
  2. Balance via shims: positive values = more front-foot pressure, more stability; negative values = more speed and agility
  3. Changing the prop guard/jet: loosen the safety nut (M8), pull the propeller off the shaft, remove the pin, loosen the cap's M4x25 screws, mount the alternative cap, reattach the propeller in reverse order
  4. Always use the correct screw lengths (screws that are too long will damage the fuselage)

OperationSiFly eFoil

How do I record my rides with the SiFly and see my GPS tracks?

Your board automatically records every ride — ride parameters and GPS route — and transmits it to the MySiFly cloud via LTE modem or WiFi. To see the data, you activate the board once under your account. After that, you'll find your sessions with stats in the app and in the WebApp my.sifly.global.

  1. Create an account: personal or business (business accounts only run via the app with a session timer); enter your email, confirm the code (valid for 4 h)
  2. Activate board: device page → "Activate"; can only be activated on one account at a time (if needed, the other account must release it first)
  3. View sessions: top speed, average, distance, duration, efficiency, longest distance/time without stopping; tap the map for the exact route (also available at my.sifly.global)
  4. Session end: personal after >2 min idle without motor or lid opened/closed; business at timer expiry or board off

TroubleshootingSiFly eFoil

No ride data shows up in my SiFly app — top speed, distance, and sessions are missing. What can I do?

If the stats are missing entirely, the board usually isn't activated under your account — without activation, ride data never reaches the MySiFly cloud and won't show up in the app. Second most common cause: the ride was never properly ended as a session, or the board had no network connection to upload after the ride.

  1. Open the device page in the app: if it says "Activate" there, the board isn't registered yet — tap it and activate
  2. A board can only be activated under one account at a time — with a used purchase, the previous owner's account must release it first
  3. Fully set up and confirm the account: the code from the email is only valid for 4 hours; without a confirmed account there's no session history
  4. Check the session end: for private use, recording only ends after more than 2 minutes of idling without the motor running, or when the lid is opened and closed again; for business use, it ends via timer expiry or the board being switched off
  5. Ensure network connectivity: the board uploads data via LTE modem or WiFi — without reception after the ride, the data arrives delayed
  6. Cross-check at my.sifly.global with the same account: visible there but not in the app → app issue (log out, log back in, update); also empty there → the data never reached the cloud
  7. If the app shows no connection at all: a SiFly can only be actively connected to one phone at a time — often another phone is currently connected
  8. Compare firmware versions under "Specifications" for board, battery, and remote — they should match
  9. If it stays empty despite an activated board, confirmed account, and network connection, this points to a transmission problem → contact SiFly support
