How do I clean and care for my Aerofoils eFoil after riding — especially after saltwater?
Rinse all components thoroughly with fresh water after every ride — this is mandatory after saltwater, otherwise salt will attack contacts and seals. Take the battery out, put the battery compartment into the drain position, and let everything dry completely before storing it. Never use high pressure or compressed air.
Lock the motor/turn off the remote, take the eFoil out of the water onto a soft surface
Open the battery compartment, disconnect the data connector + power cable, remove the battery
Put the battery compartment into the drain position (turn the latches 180°, lift the compartment, turn the latches back 180° → it clicks lightly into the open position)
Rinse all components with fresh water (rinse the battery separately per the datasheet); no high pressure/compressed air, no solvents/harsh cleaners
Let everything dry completely (including the deck pad + cavities), then store it

My Aerofoils remote turns off, won't turn on, or loses signal in the water — what's causing this?
Almost always the battery level is the cause. Charge the remote, check its charge level and the auto-shutoff setting in the settings menu. If it loses signal in the water, the remote or board was usually submerged too deep or for too long.
Turns off: check the battery level; adjust Settings > Battery Saving > Power Timeout
Won't turn on: charge it; after a long period unused, the charge indicator can take up to 15 minutes to appear (the start of charging is initially only confirmed haptically)
Signal loss in water: check the battery level of the remote and eFoil; don't submerge too deep/for too long

How do I replace the impeller on my Aerofoils eFoil after damage?
You must always fully disconnect the battery from the eFoil first — otherwise there's serious risk of injury. Then disassemble the drive from the back (nozzle, stator, nut), pull off the impeller with the special tool, fit the new one and tighten it to the specified torque. This is only for technically experienced users.
Fully disconnect the battery (mandatory); never remove the nozzle with the battery connected
Turn the nozzle counterclockwise to remove it; unscrew the stator with the special tool; loosen the nut (hold with 4 mm hex key)
Pull off the impeller with the special tool: screw in all three M3 screws fully, then turn the middle screw until the impeller comes loose
Clean the parts, lightly grease the threads; tighten the new impeller with the M8 nut to 10 Nm; fit the (greased) stator and nozzle and tighten clockwise
Never start the motor without the nozzle; if in doubt, contact a specialist/support

How do I replace the sacrificial anode and check mast play on my Aerofoils eFoil?
Both jobs are due yearly or every 100 hours of use. Just unscrew the sacrificial anode on the drive and replace it — it protects against corrosion. Check mast play with the board fully assembled: if everything's in good condition, the mast shouldn't move noticeably.
Sacrificial anode (on the drive unit) every 100 h / yearly: remove the screw, fit a new anode
Mast play: assemble the board + drive, flip the board over onto a soft surface (EVA deck facing down)
Move the mast with max. 5 kg of force alternately 90° to the direction of travel — no noticeable play means it's fine; if there's play, contact support

How do I learn to ride my Aerofoils eFoil?
Practice every step on land first. Start in "Gonna Fly" mode with a limited power level and the motor locked, and wait for GPS. Ride lying down first, then kneeling, then standing — always with pressure on your front foot. Only once you're standing securely do you accelerate until liftoff. Always wear a helmet and life jacket.
Prepare: remote control on your wrist, 'Gonna Fly' mode, power level 3, motor locked, wait for GPS
Lying down: centered on your stomach, look forward, support yourself with your forearms; unlock the motor, meter the throttle lever, shift weight forward with speed
Standing up: at low speed bring your knees forward, plant your front foot, stand up with steady pressure
Liftoff: once standing securely at ~15 km/h, release pressure on the front foot to lift off, then immediately reapply pressure; keep the wing under water; start at max. 20 km/h; steering via body weight
Loss of control: release the throttle lever, jump off to the side (never forward), land clear of the board/wing/mast

What riding modes and power levels does my Aerofoils eFoil have, and how do I set them?
Three riding modes: "Gonna Fly" for beginners (gentler acceleration), "Nice & Smooth" for intermediate riders, "Rocket Ride" for experienced riders. The power levels (1–10) limit the maximum motor output. As a starting point, roughly a tenth of your body weight is recommended as the level.
Select the riding mode on the start screen; 'Gonna Fly' is the gentlest (beginners)
Set power level 1–10 (limits motor output); starting point ~1/10 of body weight (e.g. 80 kg → level 8 or lower)
Immobilizer activates on a fall, 30 s of inactivity, power level 0, or button press; deactivate via button while board connection is active

What does the "Motor Locked" message on my Aerofoils remote mean?
The motor is blocked via the immobilizer. To unlock it, press the corresponding button on the remote while it's connected to the board — the drive is then ready to go again. If unlocking doesn't work, in our experience it's usually the Speed Limiter, which blocks the start without a GPS signal from the remote.
Press the unlock button on the remote (board connection must be active)
The lock triggers automatically on a fall, 30 s of inactivity, or Power Level 0
In our experience: as long as the board is locked, you can still access reverse gear via the same left button — press and hold instead of a short press, then the remote beeps and shows a large "R" on the display; another short press engages forward gear again
If the board still won't unlock or the drive won't start, in our experience it's usually not the immobilizer but the Speed Limiter
The Speed Limiter caps the top speed and needs a GPS signal from the remote for that — without a GPS fix, the board won't start
Solution: turn off the Speed Limiter — or switch on the remote before the board, so it has time to acquire GPS outdoors

How do I switch between the screens on the Aerofoils remote control, and where can I see my ride data?
The remote control has three screens: the start screen, the ride screen, and the board computer. To switch, hold down the button for 2 seconds each time. Current ride data (speed, time, distance, battery level) is shown on the ride screen, the full ride summary is in the board computer, and you choose the riding mode on the start screen.
Switch screens: hold the button for 2 seconds (start screen → ride screen → board computer); turning on takes ~3 s, turning off 5 s
Start screen: choose riding mode, board battery level in %; battery icon changes color below 20%, navigation bar turns red below 10%
Ride screen: power level (1–10), riding mode, speed, board battery level, ride time + distance
Board computer: ride time + distance, max./average speed, percentage of flight time, efficiency over the last 500 m and over the battery charge; press the button to scroll through the data sheets

How do I do a soft reset on my Aerofoils remote control?
Hold down the corresponding button for more than 10 seconds — this triggers the soft reset. Only use it when you get error messages that don't make sense, not as a standard fix. A soft reset doesn't delete any settings, it just restarts the remote control. If the error persists, contact support.
Hold down the corresponding button for more than 10 seconds → the remote control restarts
Only use this for unexplained error messages, not as routine practice
Don't confuse this with a factory reset: Settings > Reset > 'Delete all user settings'/'Factory reset' deletes the configuration (you may need to re-pair afterward)

What's the range and ride time of my Aerofoils eFoil — and what are the key technical specs?
The manual doesn't give a fixed range: ride time depends heavily on wind, current, wing choice, rider weight, speed, and flight height. Use the remote control's battery level as a guide — above 30% means more than 2 h, 10–30% means roughly 30 min to 2 h, below 10% means less than 30 min of ride time left.
Range/ride time: no fixed value; depends on wind, current, wing, rider weight, speed, flight height; board battery is shown in % on the start screen
E-SURFER real-world value: large battery, manufacturer claim up to 2 h / realistically ~1.5 h; light battery up to 1 h / realistically ~45 min (varies with weight, speed, conditions)
Board: 102 l, 1.76 × 0.72 × 0.18 m, approx. 9.5 kg
Remote control: 191 g, 8 h battery life, 3 h charging time (0–30% in 30 min), IP68 up to 2 m, >500 charge cycles, sunlight-readable color display, floats
1350 wing: 13 dm² / 0.95 m wingspan; 400 stabilizer: 4 dm² / 0.5 m; battery/charger details in the separate data sheets

How do I properly disassemble my Aerofoils eFoil?
Disassemble the eFoil by doing the assembly steps in reverse order. First disconnect and remove the battery, put the protective caps back on the wings, then loosen the wing, stabilizer and mast. The caps protect you from the sharp edges and protect the wings from damage during storage.
Disconnect the battery: open the battery compartment, disconnect the data connector, then the power cable (black/orange), remove the battery
Put the protective caps back on the wings (protects against sharp edges and damage)
Loosen the wing (3× M6×30), stabilizer (2× M6×20) and mast (4× M6×20) in reverse assembly order, pull the mast out of the mount
Place the board on a soft surface while doing this (e.g. board bag)

How do I transport my Aerofoils eFoil safely?
Always transport the eFoil in its dedicated transport bags and take the battery out of the board beforehand. That way all components are maximally protected and the eFoil stays easy to handle. When shipping the battery, also follow the applicable dangerous goods regulations — batteries count as dangerous goods.
Remove the battery from the board before transport (data connector, then power cable); the battery travels separately from the board
Pack the board, drive unit and accessories in their dedicated transport bags (board/drive bag)
Follow the applicable dangerous goods regulations when shipping the battery; don't put the battery in a pressure-sealed box (exception: transport/storage boxes designed for this purpose)
Store everything clean, salt-free and dry beforehand; rinse with fresh water after saltwater use before disassembling

My Aerofoils board won't unlock and won't start — what's the reason?
In the vast majority of cases, the Speed Limiter is active. It limits the top speed and needs a GPS signal from the remote for this — without a GPS fix, the board simply won't start. This isn't a defect, it's intended behavior. Either you turn off the Speed Limiter, or you give the remote time to find GPS.
Check in the remote's settings whether the Speed Limiter is turned on — the GPS status is shown in the remote's status bar
Option A: turn off the Speed Limiter in the settings — after that, the board will start even without a GPS signal
Option B (keep the Speed Limiter active): reverse the order — turn on the remote first, then the board
This gives the remote time to find a GPS signal; wait outdoors with a clear view of the sky until the GPS status is stable
In our experience the most common support case for Aerofoils: many people suspect a defect in the board or the immobilizer, when in fact the system is just waiting for GPS
Indoors or between tall buildings, a fix often doesn't happen; under open sky it usually only takes a moment
If the board still doesn't start even with the Speed Limiter turned off and a working connection, contact Aerofoils support

The mast of my Aerofoils feels loose — what can I do?
Some mast play occurs over time and can usually be fixed by tightening the two upper mast screws to 10 Nm. To do this, you first need to open the controller cover and the controller, since the screws are underneath. If you don't feel confident doing this yourself, we'll do it for you.
Remove the battery before working on the board
Scratch the thread locker off the cover screw heads with a screwdriver
Loosen the four cover screws with a TX20, take the controller cover off the drive unit and set it aside
Loosen the four controller screws with a TX20, carefully set the controller aside — watch the cables, don't pull or kink them
Tighten the two mast screws underneath to 10 Nm each: one with a 5 mm hex key, one with a 4 mm hex key — use a torque wrench, don't just go by feel
Mount the controller with a maximum of 3 Nm
Sort the cables neatly so nothing gets pinched
Mount the cover with a maximum of 3 Nm — the 3 Nm is an upper limit, too tight will strip the plastic thread
Check the mast play afterward on the assembled board: the mast must not move noticeably
If play remains despite correct torque: stop and contact support, there's more going on then
Safety: don't ride with a noticeably loose mast — at speed the play can suddenly increase

Some paint has chipped off my Aerofoils board — what can I do about that?
There's a repair kit for this from Aerofoils: touch-up paint pens in the colors of the boards. You can use these to fix small paint chips yourself. To get you the right pen, we need two pieces of information: which board it is — Adventure or Performance — and which color.
Email us at support@e-surfer.com telling us which model you ride (Adventure or Performance) and which color needs touching up — then we'll tell you which paint pen fits
Before touching up: the spot must be clean, dry and free of grease; rinse off saltwater thoroughly beforehand and let it dry completely
Don't leave it too long: a paint chip is an open spot through which moisture can get in over time
Small paint chips are cosmetic and no reason to take the board out of service
It's different with deeper damage: cracks, damaged structure or possible water ingress aren't a case for the paint pen — contact support before your next session

How does the reverse gear work on my Aerofoils eFoil?
You can only activate reverse gear when the board is locked — which happens automatically after every fall. Press and hold the left button on the remote until it beeps and a big "R" appears on the display. Then give throttle slowly and the board will move backwards. That's how you bring it back to you after a fall.
Requirement: The board must be locked — after a fall this happens automatically (immobilizer). Only then can you activate reverse gear
A short press of the left button is the normal lock/unlock function — for reverse gear, hold it long instead
Hold the left button until the remote beeps and shows a big "R" on the display — reverse gear is now active
Give throttle slowly: the board moves backwards and, from our experience, will start turning after a while — that's normal
Press the button briefly again: this engages normal forward gear
Once the nose of the board points towards you, give throttle slowly — the board comes back to you
Be deliberately careful with the throttle: you're steering a board with a running drive toward yourself
