My Lift eFoil doesn't respond to the power button and won't turn on — what's the cause?

Usually it's not a defect but a dead battery, a loose or corroded data cable, or water in the hatch. First check the charge level, then open the hatch and check the fit and contacts of the battery and data cable. If the board stays dead, it's usually the eBox.

  1. Check charge level: indicator button on the battery — no LED = deeply discharged, charge it first
  2. Open the hatch: is the battery seated firmly? Is the data cable (Fischer 5-pin/ODU 8-pin) securely connected to the eBox, pins clean, cable pushed in until it clicks
  3. Check the remote: connected via Bluetooth? Test a second remote if possible
  4. Check for water in the hatch, dry thoroughly (water triggers the eBox's protective shutoff)
  5. Check the power button (spongy = possibly defective) and the Bluetooth antenna in the hatch
  6. If the board stays dead: eBox is likely defective → contact support with model + size

My board is on and the remote is connected, but nothing happens when I pull the trigger — what's wrong?

If the board and remote are working normally but the motor doesn't start, first check the drive's fit and connection. Common causes are an LCS connection that hasn't fully clicked in, debris in the propeller, water in the eBox, or worn phase seals. If it persists, it's usually a defective eBox.

  1. Confirm the remote's connection on the display; 'not connected' → see the remote control troubleshooting section
  2. Push the LCS drive in until it clicks noticeably (partial seating = intermittent operation)
  3. Check the propeller: folding blades free to move? Debris (algae/rope/stones)? LCS propeller + tail cone clicked in?
  4. Check for water in the hatch and dry thoroughly (protective shutoff)
  5. Check the phase seals (green/yellow/red) for fit and wear, replace with a spare set if needed
  6. Check mast, motor housing, and propeller for impact damage
  7. If everything's fine but the motor still doesn't respond → usually a defective eBox, contact support with model + serial number

I found water in the hatch of my Lift eFoil — how serious is this and what should I do?

Water in the hatch is serious, since that's where the eBox, battery connectors, and wiring are located. Turn the board off immediately, open the hatch and tilt it to drain. Disconnect the battery from the eBox and dry everything completely. Check the connector pins for corrosion and test on land before riding again.

My LCS drive doesn't click properly into the board, or the propeller won't attach — what can I do?

Almost always it's sand, salt crystals, or dirt preventing the LCS connection from fully clicking in. Clean the contact surfaces with fresh water, align the drive properly, and push it in firmly until you hear it click. If the propeller's locking buttons are sticking, clean them too and mount it straight.

  1. Clean the LCS contact surfaces + mount in the board with fresh water, check for damage/debris

My remote loses connection while riding and the motor briefly cuts out — what's causing this?

This is usually caused by the Bluetooth antenna in the hatch (loose, damaged, or shifted), moisture in the hatch, or a weak remote battery. Open the hatch, check the antenna and dryness, and make sure the remote is fully charged. This was more common especially on older LIFT3 boards.

  1. Check the antenna in the hatch: firmly connected, no damage/corrosion, correctly positioned
  2. Thoroughly dry any moisture in the compartment (water near the antenna/eBox interferes with the signal)
  3. Replace a damaged antenna
  4. Fully charge the remote or insert fresh AA batteries (Classic)
  5. Stay within range; your body can shield the signal
  6. If dropouts continue → contact support: have the eBox sealing/Bluetooth module checked

My Lift remote won't turn on, won't connect to the board, or the trigger doesn't respond — what should I do?

It depends on the symptom: for "won't turn on," replace or charge the battery. For "won't connect," use the correct remote for your board and update the firmware on LIFT5/LIFTX. If the trigger doesn't respond despite being connected, it's usually the eBox/drive — not the remote.

  1. Won't turn on: replace the Classic batteries or charge the Lift/Elite via USB-C; Classic reset (insert batteries reversed, press Power 3–5x, reset, close the lid); charge empty units for 15 min; Trigger Kit if the trigger is sticking
  2. Won't connect: compatibility is, in our experience, no longer a cause — by now all controllers (Standard V2, Elite, Classic) work with all Lift models
  3. Won't connect (Classic / old Standard controller): it does NOT pair automatically — turn on the board while the remote is off; hold the plus and minus buttons while switching on the remote until the Bluetooth symbol appears; then press the black button on the side of the eBox (ESC) for 4 seconds
  4. Won't connect (Standard V2 / Elite): turn on the board first, then the remote — pairs automatically; update firmware via the Lift app; stay within ~10 m range; on LIFT3 and older, check the antenna cable/hatch
  5. Trigger not responding: watch the display while pulling the trigger — input visible, motor silent → eBox/drive; no reaction on the display → trigger mechanism/Trigger Kit or support

My Lift battery won't charge — I plug in the charger and nothing happens. What's the cause?

The most common cause is the wrong charger: Gen4 batteries need the eFoil Battery Charger (Delta Q IC1200), Gen5 and LIFTX batteries need the Quick Charger Gen5/LIFTX — they're not interchangeable. Also check the cable type, pins for corrosion, the outlet, and recharge in the correct order.

  1. Check charger assignment: Gen4 → Delta Q IC1200, Gen5/LIFTX → Quick Charger Gen5/LIFTX (not interchangeable)
  2. Check cable type: Fischer 5-pin (Gen4) vs. ODU 8-pin (older batteries); if mismatched, use a Fischer→ODU adapter data cable

My Lift battery shows unusual LED colors or patterns — what does that mean, and can I still ride?

Normally, green LEDs indicate charge level. Blinking or changing colors, red or purple, indicate a BMS state or a fault. Note the exact pattern, do a power cycle, and try charging. If an error pattern persists, don't ride — contact support.

  1. Meaning: green = charge level; blinking/changing = BMS diagnostic/fault; red/purple = fault; no LED = deeply discharged; yellow/amber while charging = normal balancing

Salt water attacks metal, seals, and electronics — so rinse thoroughly with fresh water after every session: the whole board, drive unit, wings, and all connectors. Open the hatch, check for water, dry it, and store deck-up. Check seals, latches, propeller, and screws monthly.

What are the phase seals on my Lift eFoil, and when do I need to replace them?

Phase seals are small rubber O-rings that waterproof the three phase contacts between the eBox and the motor. They come in three colors (green, yellow, red) matching the three phase leads. Worn or misaligned seals let water reach the contacts — a common cause of motor issues and power loss.

How do I properly store my Lift battery if I'm not using it for a longer period?

Lithium-ion batteries last longest when partially charged and kept cool. Charge the battery to 40–60% before storage, clean and dry it, and store it upright in a cool, dry place (ideally 10–25°C). Check the charge level monthly and recharge as soon as it drops below 20%.

How do I update the firmware of the battery, eBox, and remote via the Lift app?

Download the Lift app (iOS/Android), turn on the eFoil, and connect the remote. Connect to the board via Bluetooth in the app, check for updates, and follow the instructions. Don't turn off the board or close the app during the update. Keep the battery above 50% charged.

How do I charge my Lift battery correctly — which charger, which cable, and how long?

It's important to match the charger to the battery generation: Gen5 and LIFTX batteries charge on the Quick Charger Gen5/LIFTX, Gen4 batteries (LIFT4/LIFT3 F) on the eFoil Battery Charger (Delta Q IC1200). They're not interchangeable. Connect the power cord, then the charging cable to the battery, and wait until the display shows 'full.'

  1. Choose the charger: Gen5/LIFTX → Quick Charger Gen5/LIFTX; Gen4 (LIFT4/LIFT3 F) → Delta Q IC1200 (not interchangeable)

Usually the battery is deeply discharged from being stored too long in a discharged state and is sitting in BMS protection. Even without any lights, connect the correct charger and leave it plugged in for 30–60 minutes — some deeply discharged batteries need time before the BMS allows current through. If there's swelling, leakage, or a smell, don't charge it — contact support instead.

  1. Causes: deep discharge from storage (most common), extreme temperatures, BMS fault

What is the Lift Blowfish and how do I mount it on my eFoil?

Blowfish is an inflatable sleeve for the board rails that gives buoyancy and stability — great for learning or as a floating platform. Tool-free assembly: inflate, slide the board into the nose sleeve, wrap the rails around, bring it up to 7 PSI (~0.5 bar) and secure it with four straps. Doesn't fit LIFTX.

  1. Check the size (4'9/5'4/4'4 matching your board) — Blowfish fits LIFT5/LIFT5 F/LIFT4/LIFT3/LIFT3 F, NOT LIFTX
  2. Switch off all components and disconnect the battery before working near the motor/propeller
  3. Open the valve, inflate the Blowfish a little, check for sand/dirt
  4. Slide the board's nose into the neoprene nose sleeve, keeping the straps and valve accessible
  5. Wrap the rails around the board, push the board in until it stops, inflate to 7 PSI (~0.5 bar)

The eBox controls the motor, Bluetooth, and power. If the motor doesn't respond despite the board being switched on and the remote connected, or it keeps cutting out, the eBox is a likely cause. First rule out the battery, remote, and propulsion mounting; if the fault persists, contact support. Replacement is board-specific.

  1. Check the battery: does it show charge? (indicator button)

My Lift board only gets power intermittently or not at all — could it be the data cable?

Very often, yes. The data cable (Fischer 5-pin or ODU 8-pin) connects the battery and the eBox. The most common causes of dropouts: wrong cable when mixing generations (then you need a Fischer↔ODU adapter), pins corroded by saltwater, or a loose connector. Check the pins, clean them, plug them in firmly — don't confuse the data cable with the charging cable.

  1. Check cable fit: Fischer port + ODU connector (or vice versa) → Fischer↔ODU adapter data cable needed
  2. Check pins on cable and port for corrosion/bending; clean corrosion with contact spray, straighten bent pins or replace the cable

I hit a rock/dock/the bottom with my Lift eFoil — what do I need to check and replace?

eFoils have designed breaking points: cheaper parts give way first to protect the expensive ones. On LCS boards, the LCS Mast Sub-Assembly (absorber) absorbs impacts. Switch off immediately, retrieve the board, and check the propulsion, LCS connection, wings, and board for damage. For anything beyond a propeller/wing replacement, contact support with photos, model, and serial number.

How do I nail my first ride on the Lift eFoil — what should I watch out for as a beginner?

Build up balance at low speed first, then add power step by step. Proven progression: lying → kneeling → standing → up on the foil. Ride in calm, flat water (at least 1.2 m deep), wear a leash, helmet, and impact vest. Once the board lifts off, ease off the throttle slightly — control height with small weight shifts.

Which wing should I choose for my Lift eFoil — based on riding style, weight, and skill?

The front wing has the biggest impact on how your foil rides: bigger = more lift/stability, slower; smaller = faster, more agile. Beginners should start big (Surf V2 200–300 or Camber Pro), heavier riders should go bigger, and size down as skill grows. The rear wing controls stability vs. agility (Surf V2 stable, Carve dynamic).

  1. By riding style: beginner→Surf V2 (200/250/300), all-around→Camber Pro (210/270), surf→Havoc, efficiency→High Aspect, downwind→Florence X/Vario
  2. By weight: <68 kg smaller is fine, 68–91 kg medium, >91 kg start big and size down later
  3. Rear wing: Surf V2 (stability/beginner), Glide (efficiency), Flow (efficiency+stability), Carve (turns)
  4. Progression path: Surf V2 + Surf V2 → smaller front + Flow → High Aspect/Vario + Carve

What's the minimum age for riding a Lift eFoil, and what safety rules apply?

Lift recommends a minimum age of 16. Wear a helmet and impact vest (beginners should also wear a life jacket) and a leash on the ankle or calf. The eFoil automatically cuts power as soon as the remote hits the water or you release the trigger. Ride in calm, flat water (1.2–1.5 m deep), away from swimmers/boats, and start slow.

What Lift models are there and how do LIFT3, LIFT4, LIFT5, LIFT5 F and LIFTX differ?

Currently there are two new boards: the LIFT5 (carbon board with LCS) and the lighter LIFTX (powered surf foil). The LIFT5 F is the fiberglass version with the same battery and LCS system. LIFT3 and LIFT4 are older generations but continue to be supported with service.

How do I change the propeller on my LCS board (folding or fixed propeller)?

On LCS boards you change the propeller tool-free: turn off the eFoil, disconnect the battery, remove the old attachment. If the LCS base plate is already mounted, you press the tail cone or shroud and then the propeller onto the motor shaft while pressing in the lock buttons, until both click audibly into place. Folding and fixed propellers are mounted the same way.

  1. Safety: turn off the entire eFoil and disconnect the battery before working on the motor/propeller
  2. Remove the old attachment (propeller/jet/shroud) until the motor base is exposed

The LCS Jet is a fully enclosed impeller with no exposed propeller — the safest, quietest, and smoothest propulsion option. Like other LCS attachments, it clicks onto the base plate. Folding and fixed propellers, on the other hand, offer more aggressive acceleration and higher top speed.

  1. Prepare: turn off the eFoil, disconnect the battery, remove the old attachment; if not already installed, mount the base plate with 4 M4 screws + thread locker + 3 mm hex key (2.0 N·m)
  2. Attach the shroud: reach through the air slots, press the shroud lock buttons, slide the center hole onto the shaft, align it and press it onto the hub center until it clicks

How do I use the Lift Foil Stand correctly and how do I store my board on it?

The Lift Foil Stand holds your board securely for swapping propulsion units and wings, for charging, and for drying. Place it on a flat surface, hook the rear wing into the rear hooks, and lower the board onto the foam pads. It's best to mount and remove the board without the battery inserted. Store it deck-up, indoors, and dry.

  1. Place the stand on a flat, stable surface; foam pads facing up and clean (no sand)
  2. Guide the board with the mast and wings facing down, keeping it horizontal; ideally without the battery
  3. Hook the rear wing centered into the rear hooks, push it as far back as possible
