Brand-independent questions about eFoiling — brands we do not carry, sellers that have disappeared from the market, and how eFoils differ from jetboards. For specific questions about your board, use the eFoil Doctor.

These answers draw on our own hands-on testing since 2017 and our review of the official manufacturer documentation.

I have an eFoil from a brand you don't cover — can you still help me?

Unfortunately we don't have solid knowledge about this brand. Our support knowledge covers Aerofoils, Fliteboard, Lift Foils, SiFly and Waydoo. For smaller and lesser-known brands, our eFoil forum is the best place to go — owners exchange info directly there, often with photos and repair tips.

  1. Ask in the forum: eFoil forum — the largest German-speaking eFoil community, with dedicated threads for many niche brands
  2. If the company still exists: ask the manufacturer's support directly about spare parts and error codes
  3. We don't give technical information on unfamiliar brands without guessing — with battery and drive systems, guessing doesn't help
  4. We're still happy to answer brand-independent questions (battery care, riding technique, legal situation, transport)
  5. From our experience: with small manufacturers, spare parts and support availability are uncertain — we've repeatedly seen providers shut down operations, leaving customers without spare parts
  6. A good sign of a stable provider is an active community on social media and in the forum

Which eFoil brands have disappeared from the market?

Based on our market observation, several eFoil brands have disappeared over the years — including Waveshark, Takuma, Scubajet, Getfoil and MSLR. For owners, this means in practice: spare parts and support are hard to get, if at all. Some brands later resurface under a new name.

  1. No longer on the market as far as we've observed: Waveshark, Takuma, Scubajet, Getfoil, MSLR
  2. For owners this means: batteries, chargers and control electronics are rarely universally interchangeable — this gets difficult if something breaks
  3. Our forum is often the only place to find people with the same model: eFoil forum
  4. Watch out for rebranding: as far as we've observed, Waveshark now operates as Jetwave
  5. If a brand returns under a new name after disappointing customers, it's worth taking a close look at the company behind it before spending any money

Is this cheap eFoil provider from the internet legit?

We can't answer that across the board for a specific provider. What we can say: in the eFoil market, users repeatedly report in our forum that they ordered and paid but never received any goods. There's a detailed thread about the provider Xfoil on this. Be careful with upfront payment to unknown providers.

  1. Before paying, search the company name in our forum — if there were problems, it's usually clearly documented there
  2. Pay attention to the payment method: upfront payment via bank transfer to unknown providers offers the least buyer protection, especially for five-figure amounts
  3. Check whether the company actually exists: legal notice/imprint, a valid physical address, reachable phone support, real customer videos instead of just renderings
  4. We don't judge individual companies — we pass on what users report publicly so you can form your own opinion

Can you help me with my jetboard?

We only provide technical support here for eFoils, not jetboards. A jetboard rides directly on the water surface without a foil wing, while an eFoil lifts off on an underwater wing — technically these are two different worlds. For an overview of current jetboards, we have a separate comparison.

  1. Jetboard overview: Jetboard comparison
  2. We're happy to help with eFoil questions or general topics (battery care, transport, legal situation)
  3. Based on our market observation, quite a few brands have also disappeared from the jetboard market: among others Lampuga, Waveshark, Onean, Radinn, ASAP Rescue Jet and YuJet
  4. Special case Scubajet: this brand offered a hybrid board that could be ridden both as an eFoil and as a jetboard
  5. For owners of discontinued brands, the forum is the best place to go: eFoil forum

Battery & ChargingSafety

At what charge level should I store and transport my eFoil battery?

For transport, the rule is: 20 percent charge at most. For longer periods of inactivity — such as over winter — store the battery at 20 to 50 percent. Storing it fully charged is the most common mistake and permanently costs capacity.

  1. Transport: maximum 20 percent charge level
  2. eFoil batteries fall under UN 38.3 for battery transport; for air travel, additional airline requirements apply, which generally exclude batteries of this size
  3. Longer periods of non-use: 20 to 50 percent charge level, stored dry and cool — neither fully charged nor fully empty, both stress the cells
  4. Check the charge level regularly: batteries slowly discharge on their own even in storage, so recharge to the storage value if needed to prevent deep discharge of the cells
  5. How you specifically discharge to the storage level differs by brand — some boards have their own discharge function; select the brand above for the specific procedure
  6. Safety: a damaged, swollen battery, or one showing signs of water ingress, should not go into storage or onto the charger — move it to a safe place away from flammable material and contact manufacturer support

About the eFoil Doctor

Where do you get your knowledge from?

From two sources: the official manufacturer documentation of all supported brands — manuals and support articles, reworded in our own words — and the hands-on expertise of E-SURFER. We've been dealing with eFoils since 2017, test every board ourselves, run our own workshop, and answer customer questions every day.

  1. Manufacturer documentation: manuals and public support articles from Aerofoils, Fliteboard, Lift Foils, SiFly, and Waydoo, broken down into over 200 knowledge blocks — each built around a specific question, with cross-references resolved
  2. E-SURFER hands-on knowledge: our own testing since 2017, our own workshop, and real support cases — basically what you won't find in any manual; internally flagged as hands-on knowledge
  3. How the answer is created: the relevant blocks are pulled for your question, and the answer is formulated exclusively from them
  4. If nothing relevant is found, you'll be told that honestly instead of getting a guessed answer
  5. What the eFoil Doctor is not meant for: it's a support center for owners (operation, care, troubleshooting, error codes, assembly) — not an official repair guide and not purchase advice
  6. The knowledge base keeps growing, including from the questions asked here — the rating below the answer shows us where something is missing
